With five generations in the textile industry as our heritage, Pure Cushions’ expertise is in our DNA – and shapes the company we are today.
Our timeline starts back in 1786 with Timothy Bates & Co, the oldest engineering firm in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, which helped Richard Arkwright build his first steam powered factory in Nottingham. Timothy Bates’ grandson – and my great, great, great, great grandfather – Joseph Pollit ran the company until 1862 when he bought the business. Joined by Eustace Wigzell in 1865, the company became Pollit & Wigzell Ltd in 1891, famous for their steam engine innovation, which benefitted a range of industries, including textile mills.
Over 200 years later, Pure Cushions follows on the tradition for quality, craftsmanship and creativity championed by our ancestors. Today, Calder & Oak, brought to you by Pure Cushions, is inspired by the fashion houses of London, Paris, Milan and New York, and draws on our years of experience working alongside designers including Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen and Linda Barker, as well as leading high street department stores. We pride ourselves on marrying quality, detail and latest trends with great value for money, so every one of our designs is easy on the eye as well as your budget.
